Bishop’s Message // Hurricane Ida
Dear Friends in Christ,
When people hurt, United Methodists help. We step up and step out with courage and conviction to spread God’s love to anyone who needs help. There are people in both Eastern Pennsylvania and Greater New Jersey who need our help after Ida swept through our region. The damage and devastation was more significant than first understood.
Overall more than 10 churches and/or parsonages had extensive flooding. Thousands of people were displaced and thousands of homes had significant damage from flooding and tornados. In addition to the help we will provide to Louisiana, we will need to raise money to assist people in our region so that we can assist with relief and recovery efforts. Preliminary estimates will call for two years of work across the region.
This link is a short video that I would like for you to share this weekend with your worshipers and also to email to fellow parishioners about the need and efforts in your conference. We will continue to update you about how we will be organizing and leading relief and recovery efforts and how people can be involved. There is also a donate button on the website home page and additional information. Please do everything you can to make a difference.
Keep the faith!
John
